A boy called his girlfriend,
Crying into the phone.
Telling her what happened,
Since his mother wasn't home.
If his mom caught him,
Confessing what she makes him keep.
She would hit him again,
And starve his for a week.
'It hurts…' he cried,
As he was comforted by his girl.
She was everything he had,
She was the only reason he hadn't left this world.
He held his arm,
Where his drunk mom punched him again,
A bruise already appeared.
His suffering seemed to never end.
His eye was black,
And his back had whelps.
No one could know.
What pain he felt.
He had dealt with this,
For the past nine years.
The pain only grew,
And so did his tears.
It started when his dad,
Went to jail.
He was only five when it happened,
But he remembered it all too well.
'I wish you were dead! '
His mom would yell.
And she would throw things,
And wish him to hell.
'You remind me of your dad…'
Is something else she said.
Made the boy feel hurt,
He wished he was dead.
'It's okay baby…'
His girlfriend would say.
It wasn't much,
But it made him feel okay.
'She hit me Mallory…
And punched me hard.
I just know she's going to
Make me starve! '
His confession brought tears,
To his girlfriend's eyes.
When he said he wanted to kill himself,
She started to cry.
He had dealt with his mom's abuse,
For way too long.
No one knew except his girl,
He tried to keep staying strong.
But it was hard,
To stay tough.
When he had went through life,
Without a mother's love.
He cried and cried,
Into the phone.
He felt so afraid,
And so alone.
He stopped breathing,
When he heard a car approach.
'She's here Mallory' he whispered,
'I got to go…'
'Please be okay'
His girlfriend told him,
'Don't forget I love you'
How badly she wanted to be there to hold him.
They said their quick goodbyes,
And hung up the phone.
He was in God's hands now,
Since his mother was home.
He stood against the wall,
Too scared to move.
He heard the door open,
He didn't know what to do.
He figured she was drunk again,
Since he heard her fall.
That just made it worse,
Because she then had no control at all.
He took tiny gasps of air,
Too scared that she might hear him breath.
His legs felt like rubber,
He felt as if he'd fall to his knees.
Her footsteps,
started to the hall.
And he held his breath,
And clinged to the wall.
She came to his room,
And stared him in his eyes.
He just wanted her to get it over with,
He thought he didn't deserve to be alive.
She drew her hand back,
And slapped him in the face.
Punched him and kicked him,
And called him a disgrace.
He fell to the floor,
Feeling numb all over.
Blood gushing from his lips and nose,
He was glad it was over.
She left the room,
And he couldn't move.
Maybe this time,
It was his life he'd lose.
With the strength he had left,
He crawled on the floor.
To the phone,
And steadied himself against the door.
He dialed his love's number,
With his trembling hand.
He tried to keep from crying,
He knew this was the end.
He tried to speak,
But barely gasped breath.
'I'll love you forever'
He said with the life he had left.
Automatically,
She knew something was wrong.
She cried his name so many times,
But he was already gone.
